A little of this, a little of that!

A little of this, a little of that!

Oct 5, 2013

Well, I’ve stopped lifting.

Yes, you read that correctly.

No, I’m not happy about it.

However, while looking in the future at a possible 3 months off – if not more – I feel like I’ll gain nothing in the next few weeks that I won’t lose in those 3 months.  ALSO – after 2 months of lifting on “no restrictions” and then showing up to a “follow up appointment” and being told that surgery is what is highly recommended; I feel like the “no restrictions” was a little misleading.  What if this aneurysm had exploded in these last 2 months while I was lifting heavy and hitting personal bests?!  Then what, “Dr. No Restrictions”?!  Errrg.

🙂 Anyway, I e-mailed my neurosurgeon and asked him what he thinks the timeline will be for all of this and when we can get rolling on everything.  I’ve been having some pretty bad headaches again and it makes me worry.  I don’t have them on a daily basis, but they come and go.  Thursday was brutal.  Came on at around 3pm and lasted all night.  But! The neurosurgeon referred me to an allergist in Iowa City that will test the severity of my nickel allergy.  Once severity is determined, we can make decisions based on what the allergist recommends.  That will get the ball rolling again!  So – the allergist’s office called me yesterday and said their earliest available appointment was in January. HA!  Just my luck!  However, the woman on the phone understood why I would want to get in there soon – like next week would be good! – so she said she would work on getting an appointment sooner and calling me back.  I will hopefully hear from them Monday.  If not, my nurse in neurosurgery said to let her know and she’ll try to expedite the process!

I’m grateful that everyone has been really helpful and understanding of why we want to get this behind us.  Besides the fact that I can’t lift, I worry about the other consequences of waiting (see my previous post in the “Observation” section).  I don’t know about you, but severe neurological damage doesn’t sound all that fun to me!  The whole thing kind of puts everyone on edge too – especially on bad headache days.

I’m going to start cardio again next week, I think.  Just to do SOMETHING in the gym.  Probably only 2 days a week though.  Just enough to keep me feeling active!  I was in such a good habit and I don’t want to lose it now!  I’ll keep you posted on what I do for cardio and how I’m feeling AND if I hear from the allergist and get something scheduled.

Until then! 😀
