Hello!! I’m Abby Beenblossom!

I’m a normal, married, 24 year old woman living in the countryside of the booming metropolis of Janesville, IA.  I live there with my husband, Glenn, and our Great Dane/American Bulldog and our dog child, Boulder.  I work full-time as a Personal Trainer and I LOVE to train!  I really enjoy trying to find new and challenging workouts for my clients, and I have such a fun time watching them excel and succeed in ways they never thought they could.  I also like to spend time training myself.  My husband and I spend our evenings after work in the gym with friends of ours.  We use this as double date time and many times end up grilling out together after lifting!

When I’m not in the gym, I like to spend my time outside biking, rollerblading (although I’m NOT very good at it!), and taking walks with Glenn and Boulder.  I also love to sing and play the guitar (I’m also pretty mediocre at the guitar as well).

My true passion lies in lifting, competing, and the nutrition/meal plans that come with those.  I have participated in many sports in the years past including gymnastics and track and field.  As college ended for me, so did competitive sports and I no longer had the drive to keep my body and my health in good shape.   I was first led to,the competition world by a friend of mine who was prepping for a competition of her own.  I looked into it further, did some research, and decided to give it a try.  I competed in my first figure competition in May 2013 and in my second 2 weeks later in June.  I knew after the May show that I was hooked.  The competitions gave me a goal and a reason to get back into the shape I knew my body was capable of being in – and then some.  Now, after competing and being in the “improvement season”, I’ve realized that there is a lot more to it than having a nice physique and eating chicken and broccoli.  The reason I’ve decided to continue competing and stay in the fitness industry is because I’ve learned that my health and my body are the only ones I get and I only get one lifetime to get it right.  I now know that I deserve to be healthy, be in the best shape I can be in, and feed my body the most nutritional and healthiest options – and that there is a whole group of people who will support me.  The family of competitors, promoters, judges, and sponsors are the kindest, most genuine and loving people you’ll ever meet.  We are all in this world together and all here to help one another out.  No person is better than the next, and while the placings will still be awarded and the trophies still handed out – we all have a respect for each other and the crazy, hard work we’ve all done to get on that stage.  This close knit group of people, this new family of mine, is another reason that I choose to continue to compete!

My future plans are to eventually make it to grad school and get my PhD in Nutritional Sciences.  The world of competing is full of misunderstandings and misinformation when it comes to nutrition and how to feed and supplement an athlete.  I want to help competitors, other women especially, learn how to eat and diet in a way that is not harmful to our bodies.  I want to help the rest of society understand what we do and why we do it, and help them learn proper nutritional techniques as well.  I’ve realized that there are ways to eat foods that satisfy cravings and tastes while still being on a “competitors diet” and that there doesn’t have to be any deprivation.  This is a new found passion that I’m excited to explore and learn more about – and share!  But that’s for another day! 🙂

I’m very excited to be a part of the Iron Authority family!  It is a huge honor to be a among such an elite group of athletes that make up Iron Authority.  I want to give a huge shout out and thank you to Brady Stewart for believing in me and giving me this opportunity!  I can’t wait to get started! See you all on the web!

Xoxo – Abby
