Close Grip Benching 7/13/2012

Jul 14, 2012

Well, I have come to a conclusion.  I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE MAKE CONCLUSIONS ABOUT TRAINING, BUT THIS IS A GOOD ONE.  I will also add it to ‘DOMINATION TRAINING’.

There have been numerous training sessions where I go in and feel like crap, yet train extremely well.  On the other hand, I’ve felt great going into a training session, yet lift like dog crap!  It doesn’t matter how you feel, your brain is lying to you!  If you feel tired and weak, get your head out of your rear end and tell yourself that it’s a lie.  You can still train very well if you pick yourself up and train with focus.  Don’t let your brain speak for your body.  Never let it get in your way.

What I tend to do when I feel this way, is never skip training.  I always go in and warmup as normal.  If the weights feel as they should, I always train as planned.  If the weights feel heavier than normal and perceived exertion is too high, then I’ll back off a bit…train lower intensity and lower volume.  Active rest is a lot better than doing absolutely nothing.

I trained on thursday, and didn’t eat as much as I normally do afterwards.  I did a ton of work that took me until about 10pm that night.  I didn’t even realize what time it was.  I usually go to bed around 10:30pm.  However, I didn’t get to bed until about 12:30am, so I got about 5 hours of terrible in-and-out sleep.  I woke up 5lbs less than the day before.  This was a major sign of dehydration.  I was tired all day Friday, drank a ton of water, ate a solid breakfast and lunch.  After work, I came home and trained very well.

After work, went to a Grizzly Game in Sauget Illinois.  I think that this league is a step above legion baseball.  However, they have a really nice park to play in exclusively for their team.  It was a perfect night at 88 degrees, it was breezy, free food, free beverages, and good company.  Beth was able to come and I think hat she had a blast as well!
