In for the long haul

In for the long haul

Apr 1, 2014

I started back to training the other week. It was a long training week, or should I say almost a week and a half. that whole life things just gets in the way some time. But I digress. So far things are going well. I had reviewed all of my training notes since I first started powerlifting to help determine what has worked in the past and what I should look into again. Plus with a long training period until I compete again; most likely November, I have some time to play around with my training and try new things.

Here is how the first week went.

Day 1-

Squat; 405 for 6 sets of 3 reps.

Olympic style front squats; 225 for 6 sets of 3 reps.

Leg Press 535 for 3 sets of 10 reps.

Leg extension; 130 for 3 sets of 10 reps.

Day 2-

Bench; 325 for 6 sets of 3 reps.

Board bench; 345 for 6 sets of 3 reps.

Incline Dumbbell press; 75 for 3 sets of 10.

Cable cross; 42.5 for 3 sets of 10.

Day 3- all 4 sets of 10

Seated shoulder press; 135

Seated behind the neck press; 95

Barbell curls; 85

Preacher curls; 60

Close grip banded bench; 135

Press downs; 95

Day 4-

Deadlift; 455 for 6 sets of 3 reps.

Pin pulls, just below the knees, 495 for 6 sets of 3 reps.

Deficit Romanian deads; 225 for 3 sets of 10 reps.

Lat pull downs; 120 for 3 sets of 10 reps.

Day 5- Olympic/Strongman Mix

Clean and Jerk; 135 for 8 sets of 3 reps.

Snatch; 135 for 8 sets of 3 reps.

Tire farmer walk, couple laps down the firehouse bay floor.

Tire flipping, couple laps down the bay floor.

Tire stone load, 10 total reps.

One thing I noticed more today during my front squats is the increased pain in my wrist. No matter what I do I can not seem to not have pain trying to front squat olympic style. Because of this I began to think is it worth doing if it is causing me this much pain. And I am not talking; oh it’s sore pain. I am talking damn it hurts to move my hand pain. But I do not want to stop doing front squats, so I will be going back to the bodybuilding/crossed style.

This is leading me to rethink my overall training for my 5th day. Especially since I am working to get myself an atlas stone; I hope Saturday!! And if I do I know that the 5th day will be more strongman focused with strong loading, tire farmers, tire flips, and tire sled drags.

As always a huge shout out to my sponsors. Iron Authority and Team IA, Primo Chalk, and EVLution Nutrition.

IA All Day!!
