Raw BP Training

Feb 28, 2013

Did my typical raw training this evening.  Different bench than the one I use at home, but overall it went very well surprisingly.

Close Grip Bench
440 x5

Wide Grip Bench
405 x10

DB Military Press
65s x12
73s x12
73s x12
65s x12

Light Curls

To all my friends and fellow US World Team Members competing at the Arnold Classic this weekend, GOOD LUCK.  I wish I could be there, but my medical issues have kept me out of it this year.  That was a hard pill to swallow.  I still have some recovery to go through, but overall I am feeling about 95%.  Which is scary because I feel that my raw strength is going very well.  I don’t think that I have been this strong RAW in a very long time.  I think my raw press is around 520-525 for my close grip and wide grip.  This is great for me, but I won’t test it for a long long time.  I might entertain the idea of maxing out in the RAW bench after the world championships.  I haven’t gone over 90% in a very long time. Right now, keeping my raw training under 85%.

Another note is that my shoulders are starting to feel really good.  Just a little residual scarring in my right pec major and insertion points.  A few sessions of Active Release Therapy should do just the trick in getting that feeling better.

I still can’t squat or deadlift until I am 100% healed and healthy, so that may take several more weeks, but I am OK with that.  I have the IPF World Bench Press Championships on my horizon and squatting and deadlifting aren’t involved.  It would be nice to do some squats and deads, but instead I get to work on some extra upper body stuff.

It was great to get back in the office this week after laying down for days on end.

  1. That’s an awesome raw bench Brady. I had a strain in my pec about 2 years ago and I started adding light DB pec flys and it did the trick. The extra blood in the area not to mention the deep stretch that I got from each rep really helped. My bench went up by about 20 lbs too.
